A program that focuses on the comprehensive study of communication, and that spans the study of mass communication/media studies, old and new media technologies, social and political applications, and speech communication and rhetoric. Includes instruction in interpersonal, group, organizational, and intercultural communication; theories of communication; critical thinking, argumentation, and persuasion; written communication; printed, electronic, and digital media; rhetorical tradition and criticism; media, society, and culture; consequences and effects of mass media; media social science and criticism; and quantitative and qualitative methods of inquiry.

NJIT offers 53 undergraduate (Bachelor of Science/Arts) majors and 66 graduate (Masters and PhD) programs.[14][15] Via its Honors College it also offers professional programs in Healthcare and Law in collaboration with nearby institutions including Rutgers Medical School and Seton Hall Law School.[16][17] NJIT also offers cross-registration with Rutgers University-Newarkwhich borders its campus.As of May 2018 the school's faculty and alumni include a Turing Award winner (2011), a Dannie Heineman Prize for Mathematical Physicswinner (2015), 2 members of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, 8 members of the National Academy of Engineering,[c] 1 member of the National Academy of Sciences, an astronaut, a National Medal of Technology winner, a Congressional Gold Medal winner,[d] multiple IEEEmedalists, and 8 members of the National Academy of Inventors, including 2 senior members.[18] To date NJIT graduates have won eight Goldwaters, two Fulbrights, a Boren Scholarship, a Truman, two Whitakers, and five Gilmans.
